1996 ITF Intern, Ashe County Migrant Education, Jefferson, NC
Update from March 2011
After interning with SAF in 1996 I went on to graduate from Appalachian State University, studying Sociology and Spanish. My first experience doing documentary work as a SAF intern inspired me to study documentary photography at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies in Portland, Maine and Duke's Center for Documentary Studies. I went on to make my own documentary and fine art photography while working at different jobs from custom photo printing and managing my friend's salon to book preservation and development work at a local nonprofit. In 2008 I was looking for a way to get back into social justice work and was lucky to be able to come back to SAF as first the Operations Manager and then as Assistant Director in 2009. I'm now living in Durham with my husband Matt and we're expecting our first child this July!
