Labor laws allow children as young as twelve years old to work in agriculture with their parent's consent. However, children of all ages can be found working in the fields.
Farmworker Advocates Celebrate Día de los Muertos
On Sunday November 8th, farmworkers, community members, and activists came together from various organizations and coalitions to commemorate the lives lost of workers in their line of work. The occasion served as a reminder to workers that they are not transparent, but instead, have the support of the present coalitions and community members and are respected for the honest and necessary work that they do. The event served as a call-to-action for members and for policy makers in considering farmworkers’ inhumane conditions and pay. The event also served as a celebration of culture and empowerment, as the workers were given the platform to voice their vision for the future of farm work, to share their experiences at work, and mostly, to be seen as individuals with worth, dignity and respect.
