Labor laws allow children as young as twelve years old to work in agriculture with their parent's consent. However, children of all ages can be found working in the fields.
Thank you for a wonderful 20th anniversary celebration
Thanks to our youth, alumni, board, staff, volunteers, and everyone who came out and made our final 20-year anniversary event a wonderful celebration!
We had nearly 200 folks at the event, which included great food provided by Levante families, a wonderful program where the youth shared the process and symbols of the mural, a piñata for the kids, and folklorico dance board member Irving Zavaleta and his partner.
For those who couldn't join us for the actual unveiling..... here's the virtual one. Check out the beautiful portable fabric mural created by our Levante Leadership Institute youth and the Beehive Design Collective!
The Levante youth will use the mural this year in presentations to community groups and schools to tell their stories and the story of 20 years of SAF growing farmworker activists.
We were also excited to host Stephanie and Lauren from StoryCorps as they gathered interviews between SAF alumni, board, staff, supporters, and allies. We can't wait to listen to the interviews to hear the personal stories of SAF's impact!
Watch founding professor Bruce Payne speak about SAF’s beginnings here.
