Witness for Peace Southeast Regional Organizer

2017 Regional Organizer Job Description- Contract Role

Witness for Peace is a politically independent, grassroots organization made up of people committed to nonviolence and led by faith and conscience.  For over 30 years, Witness for Peace Southeast (WFPSE) has pursued its mission to support peace, justice and sustainable economies in the Americas by challenging US policies and corporate practices that contribute to poverty and oppression in Latin America and the Caribbean.  WFPSE documents the impact of U.S. and corporate policy on Latin America. We mobilize a base of grassroots supporters to advocate for just U.S. policies. We stand with people who seek justice.

Witness for Peace is a national organization with an executive office in Washington D.C. The Southeast region contributes to national campaigns and coordinates regional campaigns. The Witness for Peace Southeast region consists of North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas.

WFPSE is seeking a Regional Director to be based in Raleigh, NC. This is a contract position that will begin at 15-25 hours per week. An increase in weekly hours is dependent on the director’s ability to raise their own salary.

Primary Responsibilities
Under this contract, the Regional Director has 3 primary duties:

  1. Fundraising: Connecting with local supporters, creating long-term donors, organizing our donor base, and engaging creative methods to fundraise.

  2. Local organizing: Develop smaller actions to keep local supporters involved and build coalitions with likeminded community members and organizations. These could include movie nights, trivia nights, social events, legislative advocacy, non-violent direct actions. We welcome creativity.

  3. Recruit coordinators for 1 or 2 annual delegations to Latin America or lead these delegations .

We desire an experienced individual who can grow the organization's support base while the Board focuses on day-to-day office maintenance, and the coordination of WFPSE's annual events. The Regional Director will recruit for and lead Witness for Peace delegations to Latin America. The Board will work with the Regional Organizer (RO) to slowly introduce them to other programmatic aspects of Witness for Peace Southeast. Once the RO is successful in raising the funds necessary to increase hourly commitment, they will inherit other programmatic responsibilities.

The preferred candidate will have experience in grassroots organizing, as well as managerial administration. The candidate must:
