Chief Executive Officer, Proteus, Inc

Proteus, a non-profit organization that assists migratory and seasonal agricultural workers with health care access, services and job training, is currently seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organization into the future. The CEO is responsible for overall program planning and development and accomplishing program goals as established by the Board of Directors.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure coordination of program activities with public and private agencies and other interested organizations.
  • Establish and build relationships with community partners.
  • Establish general plans and organizational structure to implement Board-established goals.
  • Exercise ultimate approval and supervisory authority over programs conducted by Proteus, or assigned to qualified institutions, organizations or individuals, after first reviewing their resources and capabilities.
  • Identify grant opportunities and write, submit and manage grant proposals.
  • Serve as chief negotiator in the grant funding proposal and modification processes.
  • Determine staffing needs and structures.
  • Oversee and coordinates the preparation and presentation of varied reports as required by the funding agencies, governmental bodies or the Proteus Board of Directors.
  • Serve as chief staff representative to the Board of Directors.
  • Act as primary spokesperson and liaison to outside agencies and varied community groups.
  • Serve as corporate representative to the Association of Farmworker Opportunity Programs (AFOP).
  • Travel frequently on corporate matters as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Qualified candidates should have:

  • Education: Sufficient educational background to be able to demonstrate the ability to fulfill the responsibilities of this position. Such abilities might normally be demonstrated by a candidate having obtained a BA degree in Business, Public Administration or Social Science
  • Experience: Four years of administrative, financial, grant negotiating, or managerial experience in employment and training related government programs preferred.
  • Specific Knowledge: Ability to speak fluently in Spanish as well as English is desirable. Must be knowledgeable in the area of government grant management procedures and regulations.
  • License and Certificates: Access to reliable transportation, valid Iowa driver's license and minimum car insurance required by state law.
