Intercultural Student Engagement Coordinator, College of Charleston

Job Purpose: Leads the MSPS programming initiatives, including initiatives and events designed to mobilizes efforts to strengthen community engagement in support of students and ensures an inclusive space for intercultural learning. Acts as a visible presence on campus, serving as an advocate for the Office of MSPS. Works collaboratively with OID, Admissions, New Student Programs, and other campus departments that aid underrepresented students.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and two years of progressive and professional experience in higher education, multicultural &/or diversity programs. Master’s degree preferred. Experience working with underrepresented students is needed. Program development, marketing experience, and experience overseeing student organizations is a plus. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of Multicultural Affairs, Diversity, Access, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice. Requires a firm grasp of student development theory and cultural identity development. Ability to relate well to first generation and under-represented students of diverse backgrounds. Proven ability to collaborate and work successfully with multiple constituents to deliver and improve programs and initiatives. Superb organizational, communication (written & oral) and interpersonal skills; presents a professional image. Familiarity with the College’s programs and policies would be helpful. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Publisher, InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, PowerPoint, and Social media—especially Facebook, Instagram and twitter. Must be proactive and capable of taking initiative on projects, events, and student services. Exceptional ability at being a team player, building internal & external relationships, and contributing to a friendly, welcoming environment. Knowledge of FERPA student privacy regulations required; capable of maintaining confidentiality of students, faculty or staff members.
