The Levante Leadership Institute just wrapped up a successful year!

Throughout the year Levante Leadership youth developed and presented "One in a Million," a play about children who work in the fields and their struggles with school. Students also participated in several conferences including the NC Farmworker Institute, where they received training on financial management and spoken word, and learned  how  to write their own story in a creative way.  At Foro Latino students participated in tobacco use prevention and other leadership development trainings. Levante held its final retreat April 16-17 at Camp New Hope in Chapel Hill where we held workshops on gender roles and event planning. Students participated in an exit interview where they had an opportunity to evaluate the program and give feedback on their experiences. Two participants, Karin Rivera and Maria Enriquez, will be attending college in the fall and will receive a $500 scholarship from SAF.

“The biggest accomplishment by participating in Levante is that now I have better self-esteem and I am able to speak in public. It also made me realize that I am capable of doing anything I set my mind to.”
