Bilingual Program Assistant, UNC School of Law

The UNC School of Law Clinical legal education programs provide an opportunity for law students to learn legal theory and practice while providing much-needed legal assistance to under-represented individuals and organizations in the community. Students represent clients with a wide range of legal problems and handle litigation, transactional and policy matters from start to finish. Clinical offerings allow students to enhance their skills and work in a variety of legal areas, including: civil rights, consumer, juvenile defense, community development, domestic violence, housing, human rights, family, immigration and policy work with legislators and non-governmental organizations.

The Bilingual Program Assistant has extensive contact with the public and must develop and maintain a working knowledge of the programs and services offered by the Clinical Programs unit.

The primary functions of this position are:
-Oversight and coordination of day-to-day duties for students and attorneys in the clinic
-Direct interaction and communication with the community and serving as a knowledgeable resource about the clinic’s operations and how the clinic serves students and the community
-To serve as a liaison between Clinical Programs staff and a high volume of culturally diverse walk-in clients; to route incoming phone calls to the Clinical Programs Manager, attorneys and certified law students
-This position will occasionally require travel to off-site meetings and court hearings
