Highlander seeks a new Cultural Organizer to carry educational work that places art and culture at the center of organizing strategies to shift and move policies and practices within marginalized communities in the South & Appalachia.

Highlander’s Mission

Part-time contracted position – 16 hours per week; $15 per hour. The first year (2019) is covered by a grant and renewed funding for an additional three years will be sought.

JOB SUMMARY

The program manager will oversee and manage integration of health center operations with activities of outreach staff, students/nurses, residents and volunteers working in the farmworker camps/community and clinic settings. This position involves extensive outreach activities outside the clinic setting for approximately 6 months of the year working with migrant, seasonal, and retired farmworkers and their dependents. The program manager structures outreach services to smoothly interface with health center/clinic activities.

USCRI North Carolina, through 3-year funding from Duke Endowment, will be implementing the Youth Empowerment Services: Mental Health (YES:MH) program. This program will expand direct services which are trauma-responsive and culturally sensitive for refugee youth and unaccompanied children in NC’s Triangle area. YES:MH will utilize a model which “wraps around” youth, providing support in office, at school, with family, and with providers in the community.

We Dream in Black (WeDIB) is an initiative of the NDWA that organizes Black domestic workers across the diaspora, and builds our capacity to shape a new economy and a new democracy for all of us. WeDIB works with existing member organizations of the NDWA, and initiates new organizing projects in regions that have high concentrations of Black domestic workers.“We Dream in Black” is hiring an organizer  in the Charlotte area to help expand our North Carolina organizing strategy to build a voice for Black domestic workers.  

The Farm Labor Organizing Committee, FLOC, is in search of 3 creative and committed volunteer/interns to be part of the struggle for farm worker justice in the tobacco industry for 2-6 months between May-November, 2019.
