A community that reminds me of home

October 21, 2020 By Tyme Nunn, 2020 SAF Solidaridad intern

Tyme Nunn, SAF Solidaridad intern

My name is Tyme Nunn and I am a junior at Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina. When I chose to attend a college in Raleigh, it was a drastic change from the environment I grew up in. I was born and raised in Hamlet, North Carolina. Being in that type of environment allowed me to be immersed in a rural community which has encouraged me to never take for granted the small-town feel and all of the people within it.

When I first came across this opportunity with SAF, I was thrilled to find an organization in the area which connects me to a community that reminds me of home, while giving me professional opportunities in the field of social work. Right now, I am most excited about working on the Conéctate Carolina app that connects farmworkers to resources in their area. I am really interested to see how we can advance the program and make sure that all the resources are up-to-date for its users. I wouldn’t say I am afraid, but I am definitely anxious about being able to adapt and learn as I advance as an intern. With any new experience, you have to overcome obstacles so I am taking this opportunity one day at a time. I am absolutely stoked to be able to work with SAF.
