As I left the workshop, I carried with me a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by farmworkers

March 29, 2024 By Anna Quirino, SOL intern

The Introduction to Farmworker Advocacy Workshop was a transformative experience that opened my eyes to the often-overlooked heroes working tirelessly to uplift farmworkers and their communities.

One particular moment during the workshop left an impact on me where various experts and advocates shared their insights and experiences in the realm of farmworker advocacy. The room was filled with passion, dedication, and commitment to addressing the challenges faced by those who work in the fields to put food on our tables.

El Futuro Es Nuestro was one of the organizations that participated on the panel to speak on the work they do. They are an organization that promotes the participation and inclusion of workers, members of the union's leadership, Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC). The speaker, a passionate advocate, began to share stories of their work in the field where they focused on grassroots efforts, working directly with farmworkers to address issues ranging from fair wages to living conditions.

What struck me most was the acknowledgment that this speaker received during the workshop. My colleagues and I realized that the work done by organizations like El Futuro Es Nuestro often goes unnoticed. The speaker shared anecdotes of the challenges faced by farmworkers and the impact that advocacy efforts could have on their lives.

The acknowledgment in the workshop was a powerful moment, highlighting the need to elevate the voices and efforts of those working at the grassroots level. It was a call to action for all attendees to recognize and appreciate the crucial role played by organizations like El Futuro Es Nuestro in effecting change.

As I left the workshop, I carried with me a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by farmworkers. These challenges aren't just physical, they're emotional as well.
