A time I felt most proud of myself during this [Levante] experience was whenever Flor Juarez Diaz [Program Director at James Sprunt] came to speak and knew about me already from my non-profit initiative. The reason why was because it made me realize that all the work I was doing was paying off, and that people do pay attention to change and movement. I want to thank Levante for helping me be a more outgoing person who wants to create change.
My understanding of issues related to farm work, immigration, and other social issues have definitely deepened from the Levante program. The lessons and panels we would have were informative as well as fun. It makes you think about everything, like how unfair things are for our community. It has made me be more of an activist and be more of someone who wants to create change.
The kind of leader I want to be moving forward is one who constantly tries to fix issues. A leader who sees something happening and instead of ignoring it, I aim to fix it. I want to always stand up for what I believe in. I want to keep my morals always.
If I were to speak to someone considering joining Levante I would convince them to join. I would say how Levante helped me grow all my abilities and taught me how to use my voice in a way to create change. It also introduced me to new people who are like me and have the same interests. I have new friends because of Levante. Levante also helps grow your network because of all the guest speakers. It’s a great way to get to know people like you, who are more knowledgeable, and want to help you. If I could be in Levante again I would, so I think you should definitely try it as well.
