As part of SAF’s commitment to reflection and accountability, we invited members of our Board to share personal reflections on what this work means to them. Below are a few voices that capture the care, responsibility, and hope guiding SAF as we move into the year ahead.
On Showing Up with Curiosity and Humility
Before deciding to join the board, I took time to reflect more deeply on my potential role within SAF, including recognizing my positionality, the limits of my knowledge, and the responsibility that comes as a board member. Reflection has helped me better understand what it means to support SAF’s commitment to students and to the ongoing struggle for farmworker justice with curiosity and humility.”
— Jacey Anderson, PhD, SAF Board Member
On Why This Work Matters
One moment I often reflect on is when SAF’s grassroots organizer, Victoria, took the SOL interns to Stagville Plantation. That experience allowed me to reflect on the history of farmwork and the deep ties between Black and Brown solidarity, and it further deepened my commitment to standing with my farmworker and immigrant community and continuing this work through SAF.”
— Carolina Mendez, SAF Alumna and Board Member
Looking Ahead
My 2026 hope for the SAF community is to find our power within and reach new levels of confidence to carry forward our mission of justice for farmworkers, and inspire empowerment within farmworker communities to make them feel heard, valued, and supported.”
— Nancy Diaz, SAF Board Member
These reflections remind us that SAF’s work is sustained by thoughtful leadership, lived experience, and a shared commitment to justice. Thank you for being part of this community.
