- SAF staff and Into the Fields interns participated in a lobby day organized by the Immigrant's Rights Alliance to speak out against anti-immigrant legislation at the General Assembly on June 9.
Intern Brandy Fuentes spoke at the event and said, "North Carolina has placed a significant financial barrier between undocumented students and education. I, like thousands of undocumented students in North Carolina, have to pay out-of-state tuition for higher education from a public college or university simply because of racist policies created to keep us from succeeding." She urged lawmakers to support in-state tuition for undocumented students. - All 5 SAF Levante graduating seniors have plans to attend a university or community college in the fall. Shout out to former SAF Youth Organizing Director Victor Canales Gamiño and Solidaridad intern America Juarez-Maldonado for all their work and the mentorship they provided for the youth over the last year!
- SAF’s Grassroots Organizer Victoria Nwankudu and Solidaridad intern Omar Ibarra spoke at NC Raise Up's event "May Day Live: Worker Power is the Answer" about farmworkers and the injustices they face in North Carolina.
- We continued our bi-monthly reunion calls with alumni this month with a panel of alums sharing about their experiences with social work programs and how they’re using their degrees in their current careers.
