My story begins even before I was born

My story begins even before I was born.
The generations of strong people, that's the real story to be told.
While I do not know all their names, it is because of their hard work that I am here today.
In many ways, I feel guilty for that.
Why do I deserve these opportunities, but they had to endure so much?
It is a question I may never get the answer to, but in the meantime, I owe it to them to stay focused and take the opportunities available to me.

The prompt for this blog was, who are you?
Who am I?
I would say that is something I am still discovering.
I know I am a
Daughter, Sister, Friend, First-Gen College Student
But who am I to myself?
Now, this is a question I have to get an answer to in my lifetime!
Although I am inclined to say, I have time to figure this out,
this pandemic has shown us time is not guaranteed.

The pandemic has also exposed how vulnerable many groups of people are.
Therefore as I seize this time I have to make my family proud, I want to work with groups that need helping hands and listening ears.
Their voices need amplification and their work needs proper acknowledgment.

With Student Action with Farmworkers, I hope to do work that lifts the generations ahead.
Including the ones in my future high school classrooms.
Through it all, I also hope to discover more of who I am alongside my peers.
Maybe then I'll have a better response to this prompt.
